Poll: Was Nicki Minaj Right or Wrong to Cancel Scheduled Summer Jam 2012 Performance?

A day after Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2012 mega concert and fans are still talking about the fallout between Nicki Minaj and one of the station’s personalities that led to Lil Wayne pulling his Young Money rapstress as headliner of the event at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday night (June 3).

“Now hold on, before I get to the real hip-hop shit today…because I see the real hip-hop heads sprinkled in here, I see ’em,” Hot 97′s Peter Rosenberg said, before introducing Kendrick Lamar on the smaller stage preceding the main concert. “I know there’s some chicks here waiting to see the ‘Starships’ later…I’m not talk to ya’ll now. Fuck that bullshit! I’m here to talk about real hip-hop shit!’”

That comment prompted Weezy to pull Nicki from being the scheduled closer of the show.

“Young Money ain’t doing summer jam,” Wayne tweeted.

In turn, the Young Money princess responded with a tweet of her own.

“Wow. U niggaz just fucked up history. But the President has spoken. #YMCMB.”

She continued, tweeting into the night.

“Had a HELL of a fucking lineup. But we won’t be disrespected,” Nicki added. “I go above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against Wayne’s word. What he says, goes. I’d like to thank the staff @ philly & boston summer jams for treating their guests w/respect! Had a blast.”

Instead of rocking the crowd of a reported 60,000 fans—although it seemed like far less—Nicki opted to party with the likes of Cam’ron and Foxy Brown at restaurant Negril in New York City.

Meanwhile, over in East Rutherford, Summer Jam continued with the likes of J. Cole, Waka Flocka, Young Jeezy and Big Sean each turning in solid sets, Nas bringing out Lauryn Hill as his special guest, French Montana delivering Ma$e to the Summer Jam stage and Rick Ross and Meek Mill closing the show in place of Minaj.

Sunday wasn’t the first time that Rosenberg blasted Nicki for her pop-friendly “Starships” track.

“I mean no disrespect to Nicki Minaj, but it was nice having you in Hip-Hop,” Rosenberg said on the air shortly after her Grammy performance in February. “This song right here, ‘Starships,’ is literally one of thee most sell out songs in Hip-Hop history!”

All this being said, XXL wants to hear from hip-hop fans. Should Nicki Minaj have skipped her Summer Jam performance due to Rosenberg’s remarks? Please vote below and check out the results tomorrow (June 5).—Mark Lelinwalla
