Guacamelee! which was released in early 2013 on PS3, Vita and PC was already a well received and very fun game, so developer Drinkbox Studios is bringing the party to the next gen consoles with their Super Turbo Championship edition. The Mexican-infused action platformer with the tight, engaging combat, adds a dash of super, a bit of turbo, and a pinch of championship creating an even doper version.

You're once again on a mission to stop the evil charro Calaca from merging the land of the living with the land of the dead, but on top of everything that came before, STCE introduces two new locations, a new boss, new enemy types and a handful of new moves and abilities for luchador hero Juan. The new locations, like the rest of Guacamelee!, are stunning to look at, fun to play through, and throw their own mixture of platforming and enemy-based challenges at you. Presentation wise Guacamelee! shines with its super colorful Luchador-inspired style with roots in Hispanic culture. The colors are vibrant and bright, they really make the game enjoyable to play or watch due to the ever changing environments. The addition of alternate costumes and their differing powers are also a neat and silly inclusion into the crazy visual experience.

Some of the enemy-centric challenges come by way of new foes that add a dynamic layer upon the game's already exceptional combo-based combat. Another engaging thing about Guacamelee! is the fantastic co-op play. Players are able to hit in combinations unseen in solo play, while incorporating the many costumes for the second player. Juan and his companion Tostada remain on the same screen, which makes for a great co-op experience.

The XXL Endgame

Guacamelee! is a very sound platformer that doesn't lack much. While at times the play style can get kind of repetitive, there's so much action going on you'll barely notice. Guacamelee! manages to pose a challenge both as a brawler and as a puzzle platformer and  is a welcome update to the original game. - written by DJRhude (@DJRhude)
