Last week, Michigan Wolverines’ head coach, Jim Harbaugh, unveiled an exclusive pair of Air Jordan 5’s themed after the school’s team colors. Dressed in an all navy upper with splashes of yellow, the unreleased pair of sneakers were gifted to Pope John Francis during the team’s visit to Rome. Since then, another colorway of the Michigan sneaker (yellow/black) has surfaced online with the likes of DJ Khaled and Mark Wahlberg being the first to receive the unreleased pair. Themed after Michigan’s famous collegiate basketball team from the 1990s, known as the “Fab Five,” this pair of shoes was made exclusively for friends and family of the Jordan Brand.

Designed by Nike's VP of Design & Special Projects, Tinker Hatfield, the pair of shoes were officially unveiled today by the coveted designer. “If you were watching College Basketball in the early 1990s, the Fab Five stuck with you. They brought a new style of play. They had swagger to their game that I hadn’t seen at the college level before. They became one of the most iconic teams in college sports. I wanted to create a special shoe that celebrated that team and marks the start of a new era for the teams at the Jordan Brand and the University of Michigan,” says Hatfield of the Friends and Family pair.

Dressed in a in a bright suede maize upper, the sneakers feature an all-black tongue with an “M” embroidered at the top. On the back heel, the sneakers feature a “five times” logo, which represents the team’s sign that was used during Fab Five days.

This Air Jordan 5 “Fab Five” silhouette will not be available for retail as the sneakers are part of Jordan Brand's Friends and Family program.
