Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto series is one of the most storied (albeit relatively young) franchises in all of gaming, and with its newest iteration hitting stores in one month, stakes are high for Grand Theft Auto V. Leading up to the new iteration's release, Rockstar has put out a few teasers that touched on the new game's features—there will be three main characters in the game, rather than one—but today they're back with a full-fledged official gameplay video for GTA V's highly anticipated online component.

According to a statement from Rockstar, "Grand Theft Auto Online is a dynamic and persistent online world for 16 players that begins by sharing gameplay features, geography and mechanics with Grand Theft Auto V, but will continue to expand and evolve after its launch with new content created by Rockstar Games and the Grand Theft Auto community. Grand Theft Auto Online takes the fundamental Grand Theft Auto concepts of freedom, ambient activity and mission-based gameplay and makes them available to multiple players in an incredibly detailed and responsive online world."

In GTA Online, gamers will be able to explore the famed Grand Theft Auto landscape with friends and "work coopoeratively on missions, band together to participate in activities and ambient events or compete in traditional game modes with the entire community." Check out the trailer for GTA Online above, and make sure to cop GTA V when it comes out in stores on September 17.
