Ms. Melodie, a key member of the Boogie Down Productions crew and ex-wife of KRS-One, died last night (July 17), according to multiple news outlets. She was 43.

Born Ramona Parker, Ms. Melodie was perhaps best known for her performance on the 1989 hit record, “Self Destruction,” in which she spit bars alongside KRS. She released her only album, Diva, that same year.

As of press time, the cause of Ms. Melodie’s death and her age are unknown. According to GlobalGrind.com, the Brooklyn native is survived by her two sons.

However, the news of her passing spread quickly throughout the hip-hop community on Twitter on Wednesday (July 18).

"Rest in paradise Ramona. #MsMelodie #BDP," tweeted D-Nice, former Boogie Down Productions member. "I had a pleasant conversation w/ Ms. Melodie a month ago. The last thing she said to me was "I'm proud of you. #BDP What a sad day."

Hip-hop mogul and ambassador Russell Simmons also passed on his condolences to the fallen rapstress.

“RIP Ms. Melodie. a dope MC,” tweeted Simmons.

“R.i.p to Ms Melodie… A dynamic woman who’s heart was pure and genuine..” added the Ultramagnetic MCs.

“Man, another HipHop figure from my childhood has passed..,” tweeted R.A. the Rugged Man. “Ms. Melodie of Boogie Down Productions. May She Rest In Peace.”—XXL Staff
