Murs’s new video has been stirring up a lot of talk on the Internet lately.

In the clip for “Animal Style,” which is featured on Murs’s latest album, Love & Rockets, Volume 1: The Transformation, Murs plays the role of Roderick, a gay high school student, who’s in a relationship with Jonathan, another male student at the school.

While the bond between the two lovers is displayed openly with affection, Roderick’s insecurity as a gay man clearly distresses the young lovers’ relationship.

The climax of the video comes when Roderick shoots Jonathan and then turns gun on himself in a tragic murder/suicide.

The video ends in a flashback of more pleasant times in their relationship, including the couple cuddling and sharing a kiss. That kiss (which comes at the 5:18 mark in the video) has fans commenting by the hundreds on YouTube and via other video outlets. In addition to the kiss, Murs (as the narrator) is seen wearing a t-shirt that reads 'Legalize Gay' in full support of gay marriage.

The video comes just about a week after Odd Future’s Frank Ocean announced his bisexuality via his Tumblr account. What followed was a tidal wave of support by the hip-hop community including the likes of Russell SimmonsJay-Z, wife Beyoncé, Trina, Busta Rhymes and fellow OF members Tyler, The Creator and Frank Ocean.

Although New York City rapper Mysonne thought Ocean was using his coming out as a means of sparking interest in his album, Channel Orange, the overwhelming sentiment has been that of support for the crooner.

Murs, too, is appreciative of those who accept the message his video, “Animal Style” was trying to portray.

“Thanks for all the positive energy and love shown for the new video y’all,” Murs tweeted earlier in the week.—Jaeki Cho (JaekiCho)
