Mac Miller Speaks on Being Cut from Kesha’s Star-Studded “Sleazy (Remix)”

Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger (Remix)” wasn’t Mac Miller’s first appearance on a pop record. Prior to lending two verses to Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera-powered single, Mac recorded a verse for Kesha’s “Sleazy 2.0 (Remix)”—also co-produced by Benny Blanco—which featured Rostrum Records labelmate Wiz Khalifa, Lil Wayne, T.I. and Andre 3000.

Mac’s appearance on “Sleazy 2.0 (Remix) spawned his guest spot on Maroon 5’s song, but his verse was mysteriously shelved once Kesha finally released the single late last year.

“I was supposed to be on the record,” Mac told “I dropped a verse. I heard from people that Kesha really liked my verse, but I don’t know. I wasn’t salty about it. I was excited to be on that remix with those people, but it happens so I’m now swollen about it, I didn’t need it.”

Time will tell if Mac’s verse will ever find its way onto the bloggosphere. But to let him tell it, his verse was right on par with that of the track’s superstar guest MCs.

“It would have just been something cool, but it’s OK,” he reasons. “I’m just not on it. My verse is never gonna be heard, but it’s the illest.”—Carl Chery (@cchery)
