This year is lining up to be a busy one for Jay-Z. The rap star, who became a father in January, is possibly working on two projects: a solo effort, and a follow up to Watch The Thone, with Kanye West, of which Pharrell may be a part.
“We’re working on something, it’s crazy,” Pharrell recently told MTV News. “You know, he’s very discreet about details and stuff. I’m just a film maker, musically, you know what I’m saying. I just let everybody else play the roles.”
Pharrell wouldn’t give any more details, but it’s clear that he’s been hard at work of late. Pictures have surfaced of him in the studio with everyone from Rick Ross to Meek Mill to Kendrick Lamar to ASAP Rocky to Mac Miller.
“Mac Miller deserves it,” P told MTV about the Pittsburgh MC’s success. “He’s working hard and he’s happy and very thankful, he’s a super humble kid. He deserves it. Another one of those kids with great work ethics. That’s what the game’s needed, and it’s sprouting up everywhere and it’s so awesome. He came down to Miami and was like, Yo, I wanna do something. So we went in and made two really good records.”
Though Pharrell and Jay have worked together extensively during their careers, the Viriginia hit-maker most recently contributed the production to “Glroy,” Hov’s tribute to his newborn, Blue Ivy Carter. —Adam Fleischer
