“Changes” Named 2Pac’s Greatest Song in XXLMag.com Tournament

Floyd Mayweather versus Victor Ortiz and Fabolous versus Ray J weren’t the only matchups this weekend. 2Pac’s Greatest Song Tournament on XXLMag.com finally came to a close with the deceased rap legend’s posthumous hit, “Changes,” upsetting his classic anthem, “Dear Mama” in a split decision.

Kicking off five-weeks ago on August 15 at the beginning of XXL’s Tupac Month, the bracket was broken up into four categories: the Interscope years, the Death Row years, Posthumous releases and featured verses.  [View bracket here] ”Changes” ended up winning the title with 55% of the votes.

“Changes” appeared on ’Pac’s 1998 Greatest Hits album and peaked at No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart that year. In the tournament, it got the best of “Last Muthafucka Breathin,” “I Wonder If Heaven Got a Ghetto,” “Letter to My Unborn” and “Thugz Mansion” in the Posthumous Bracket and “Hit ‘Em Up” in the semifinals.

“Dear Mama” was originally featured on Shakur’s 1995 LP, Me Against the World. To boot, “Dear Mama” peaked at No. 9 on pop charts, but that didn’t change voters opinions when given a chance to weigh in on their favorite song. —Christopher Minaya

This song isn’t anywhere near Pac’s greatest song.

cant be Pac’s Best song-not by any long shot. songs where Pac plaintively rhymed from his heart struck and still strike deeper chords-Letter to my Unborn, Dear Mama, So many tears,Thug mansion, etc

I personally liked Until the End of Time as being his best posthumous hit along with I Wonder if Heaven Gotta Ghetto… However, changes was a great song and deserves to be recognized…

Changes is his best song.. I purchased and listened to all his songs and Changes is by far the best lyrically and emotionally. It has the most heart in it. > The best bracket is Interscope where majority of his best songs was recorded. It made sense that Dear Mama came out on top in that bracket. Although I got upset when a lot of people took “Me Against the World” over Brenda Got a Baby. > In the Featured Bracket. I think Smile is more relevant than Pain but it understandable that a lot of people voted for Pain because its a good song. >”Hit Em Up” in the Death Row Bracket was predictable because its the greatest battle rap song of all time and he crushed a lot of careers in that one song. Nothing in that bracket came close. Although “Life Goes On” should have been in that bracket. I feel that was a big XXL mistake. The second best was “Amerika’z Most Wanted.” > In the Posthumous Bracket. Changes was obvious although I think Until the End of Time should have made it farther than Thugz Mansion. > Finally, my fave 5 are 1. Changes 2. Dear Mama 3. Brenda got A Baby 4. Until the End of Time 5. Me against the World. Honorable Mention goes to “Who Do you Believe In” but I didn’t see that listed in the tournament.

Calm your asses down about Changes winning. It obviously deserves the spot because WE VOTED FOR IT. Maybe you didn’t, but the majority of his fans did.

Also, I kinda knew Changes would end up in first place against Dear Mama, which would end up in second place. It’s obvious that his most meaningful tracks would rank up there…
