Jay-Z Signs Will Smith’s Daughter to Roc Nation

Willow Smith was not about to let her parents, Will and Jada, and her brother, Jaden, be the only stars in the family. A day after the nine-year-old’s track “Whip My Hair” leaked online, it’s been confirmed that she is the latest addition to the roster of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

Earlier this morning, Willow was on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show discussing her talents, the song and the life of a fifth grader. President Carter then called in and spoke about first meeting her while they were in Japan. “She walked in and the first thing she said was, ‘I’m really nervous,’” Hov explained. “And I thought, ‘That’s maturity’—to explain exactly how she was feeling when she walked right into the room. I knew right then she was a star.”

He continued, “I don’t want to go so far, but I can imagine that’s how Mike [Jackson] was as a young kid—he knew exactly what he wanted.”

Jay-Z and the Smiths are no strangers, as Jay, Will and Jada served as co-producers on last year’s wildly successful Broadway musical, Fela.

Earlier this summer, Jada said that Willow was working on an album, though no release date has been announced. —Adam Fleischer

F.M.L. i cant get that shit outta my head! its tight for what it is, though, like bruh said. IMO, it almost sounds exactly like that Money, Money, Money – Red Cafe, Fab, & Diddy

  • ItsBrittanyB*tch!!!!!

ooh I luv that song and she 9, but the song is very age appropriate and I think she could be really huge one day

  • freshyboi

I can’t even front fam, im 31 and I was like “man I ain’t even trying to hear that” but once I did within like the 1st couple seconds when the chorus is going and that beat starts knocking I was nodding my head…she sounds like a better version of Rhianna. I mean it’s nothing epic to the point where it’s going to change the game (for anyone that hasn’t heard it yet) but I understand the hype on it because it was a dope little track

  • Jamal7Mile

Ok, y’all convinced me to youtube this jawn. Exactly like ThatDude stated, I was like “maaaan, why am I checking for this?” …but then the beat dropped. And the chorus kicked in. DAMN! It got me doing the Hip-Hop head nod with the scrunched nose look on my face, haha! No lie, the track is hella cute!

    Pleasantly surprised!

Just like everyone else suprised by not just the quality of the track but natural talent. Doesn’t seem like it’s being forced because it’s Will Smith’s daughter to get in the buisness but she really wants to sing. 9 years old already sounding mature for her age this is a hit no question. You know Will and Jada put some good values in this kid. 9 years from now won’t see her do some Lindsey Lohan shit.

I say go for it I see way more improvement in terms of vocal skills and songwriting skills by the time she reaches adulthood then say lil twist or lil chuckee

  • ThatDude

No doubt Jamal7Mile I had that same face son…and I think it’s more the shock that it was better than I actually expected it to be and it’s mad catchy…don’t get it twisted I won’t be in the whip with the windows down at the light whipping my hair back or no shit like that but shit is alright with me. I mean we all have songs like that where it’s like part of us may not want to like it but that shit just gets kind of addicting, I wish her nothing but the best and I know Will & Jada aren’t going to let the biz ruin their children most of the other star kids get ruined because they have to stay in it once that lifestyle is created because so many people are leaning on them but for people like Willow and Diggy Simmons the money is there so it’s more like a hobby type deal.

  • Chilly Willy

    Imma peep it later.

But for what it’s worth, if I’m Will, I say give her a contract while she’s 9, I don’t wanna hear about no Fishburne bullshit when she’s older.

      Willz what’s popping fam?

      • Chilly Willy

You know what it is fam, still grindin. Been away for a minute, nothin serious though, traveling a little bit. How you been doin ?

And I confirm, that joint goes hard, man I can’t get it outta my head !!!

LMAO @ that fishburne comment. But really:
Willows Smith’s future Career>>>>>>>>>>> Montana Fishburne’s future as even a whore. It’s amazing how both had the same advantages yet only the 9-year old had the sense to use their parents’ name as opposed to ignoring it and being a filthy $2 whore in order to one day be the next Kim Kardashian (which is only if Kim is known for the spots on her ass). Also that “Whip My Hair” track is dope.

if shes signing with jay, she will end up just like rihanna, beyonce and whoever else he turned out

  • Q461

Will Smith and Hov = 2 of hip-hop’s elite as far as wealth and influence…

Crazy to me to have grown up listening to run dmc and jazzy jeff and fresh prince to be listening now to diggy and willow smith, offspring of some classic artists.

This song ain’t really my thing, but this could easily have gone to Rihanna. Jay should get her on a duet with Justin Bieber quick… she’ll blow up overnight no doubt.

    That song is pretty tight.

  • JC

Go lil Willow..lol, this song is dope and reminds me of Dallas Austin’s work with younger talent…he never watered down the sound of the records, he just tailor-made the lyrics…but he took the songs seriously and made sure they were dope for any age, the kids and adults…this song is tight..the bridge is melodic, one of the best i’ve heard in YEARS…
