50 Cent is Not Signed With Capitol, G-Unit Insiders Confirm

Earlier this morning a video with Craig Davis, the vice president of urban promotions at Capitol Records, was posted on YouTube, claiming that 50 Cent had signed with the label. Insiders at G-Unit have confirmed with XXLMag.com that a deal has not been made.

In the clip, Davis says that Capitol recently recruited Fif and Lloyd Banks—who is currently a free agent, since getting dropped from Interscope. G-Unit insiders deny the validity of these statements.

The Queens native is currently gearing for a series of tour dates in Brazil and the Democratic Republic of Congo with Banks and Yayo. The G-Unit soldiers will start their trek at Wet n’ Wild on July 9 in Salvador, Brazil and conclude in Brazzaville, Congo’s Stade Massemba-Débat. —Elan Mancini

    Chances are that 50 is shopping around for a label just as Ludacris did until he met with Def Jam and Island Execs about a new contract. A few artist have gone this route. Busta Rhymes went from Elektra to Interscope to his present home. Artists usually have to two options before the end of a contract – either show your worth in hopes of a being signed again or intentionally release poor material so the label will be more than happy to release you so you can sign elsewhere. Why do you think so many artist release a greatest hits comp as their final album – so they can fulfill their contract without minimal work. A bad contract can “inspire” artists to drop a brick of an album just to lower their value to their current label so they can sign elsewhere for a deal with better incentives. Which might explain why Before I Self Destruct’s pitiful performance and lack of promotion.

      agree people say eminem(who has great lyrical ability but doesn’t say much with his rhymes) is the best rapper of all time because of his album sells which he sells to a majority of a white base who dont buy hip hop records there are plenty of other artists who deserve that recognition who havent sold as much such as nas, scarface

    50 was all marketing and hype. I wont deny that he had some hits but most of it was built off of hype and beef. But on the business side of it he is a beast. The deals he made, shows hat he was a real hustler. These new rappers should take a page from his book and get there hustle up.

    50 is a beast with business smarts but like any other rapper he plays the blame game when his shit doesn’t sell. Just look at how he went from his first album doing 10 million,then 8 million,then 2 millon now hi album had to fight to go gold. It wasn’t the quality and bullshit beef to him it was interscopes fault. Well atleast he’s rich right ? at the end of the day that’s ALL the most rappers care about. Making quality music is 3 or 4th on the list.
