Danger Mouse Bites Back At The Music Industry, Encourages Illegal Downloading

Danger Mouse, the Grammy-nominated producer behind such acts as Gnarls Barkley, MF Doom, Gorillaz and the critically-acclaimed Grey Album, has decided to take a stand against his label.

After legal battles over the release of his new album, EMI reportedly decided to shelve DM latest effort, Dark Night Of The Soul. According to Gizmodo, DM came up with the idea to put out a book of 100 photographs shot by famed director David Lynch (Twin Peaks) as well as a blank CD. On the disc it states, “For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will,” alluding to fans to burn leaked versions of the album.

DNOTS can currently be heard for free on NPR’s website.

As of press time it is uncertain when the package for the album will hit shelves. – Elan Mancini

Make sure your virus protection is up to date and the file you download does not have excessive code (a bunch of zeroes and random letters) in the description. I think labels purposely put viruses out there. Other than that, happy downloading!!

LOL. I’m not a Danger Mouse fan, but I may just buy his blank CD and download his album on GP. I love it. A big middle finger to his TI benefactors. If he weren’t one of their nephews, they’d probably have him killed.

    Brilliant i second that !!!!!!!!

What a douche! Thats a big FCUK You move to all of the hard working artists that are trying to make it in the music industry. Free music and illegal downloading does not put food on the table. I hope his label sues the sh!t out of him! Prick!!

    • tensensi

Artists hardly make shit off of record sales. Do you know what an artist typically gets from the sale of 1 CD? Do you know what the TIs get for that same sale? Artists make most of their scrill from shows, and that comes from having a large fan base. So get your music out there!

What’s funny (to me anyway) is when I was reading this I was thinking “Somebody is finally not using that damn taking food out of the artist’s baby’s mouth argument!” No, it was some guy in the comments section. In actuality, it’s taking food out of the TIs fat mouth.

        @Tensensi
artists WERE making money off touring, now with these 360 deals the labels are making them sign they’re even trying to take that from the artists. so yeah fuck these labels! happy downloading to all. they deserve it for every time we had to pay 15 dollars for 2 good songs.

d your an idiot … it has nothing to o with food on a table ever …. ok so maybe that rapper might think about buying that 300,000 chain or maybe might get that lambo instead of the bentley …. WHO GIVES A FUCK regardless if ppl buy or download it they still will make more money than any one person on this comment page makes … so who cares

  • sealsaa

    @ d

One could argue that pushing back an artist album that he’s worked so hard on because of legal red tape is a big F*ck you to all of the “hard working” artist out there. Its his work, yet he’s being prevented from releasing it. Thats hardly fair to him.

Damn these labels better wake up, alot of artists lately are proving they don’t need them to sell records (EX: Radiohead).

  • TQ

i never thought danger mouse would do something like this but its a smart move fuck these labels they just putting shit out anyway hoping we dont notice, shit all artists (the smart ones anyway) r gunna be doing this n going independent n doing shit they own way n q-bot radiohead is probably the best example of that shit too.
