T.I. is close to going 2x platinum with an album for his first time. Paper Trail is still selling, slow but steady. Even though he’s going to jail, T.I.’s MTV show and all the other promotional stuff he’s been doing is really paying off. Also, having a couple of #1 singles is helping too. He’s always been a great artist and this success he’s getting was long overdue.

Gorilla Zoe’s first album was a little better than what I expected from some of the big A&R southern releases. Of course I copped it 6-12 months after it dropped so it was only $1.99 used. But I think he’s o.k. at least he has a voice that’s his own. But 30K plus is decent in this terrible market for a newer artist.

wow, no one buys discs anymore. 3,000 and change? even to be in the top ten with only 30,000? zoe will be lucky to do 250 overall and CNN, who knows. this isn’t north versus south or good versus wack . . . it’s just that the music industry has changed so much–throw in an economic downturn and there you go. artists who go independents or who can make their money with a hot show or other ventures will survive. the rest? they better really love what they do.
