Grandmaster Flash Recruits Snoop Dogg & Busta Rhymes For Comeback Disc

Legendary hip-hop DJ Grandmaster Flash is set to put out his first album in over 20 years with the release of The Bridge: Concept of a Culture next year and he has recruited a star-studded line up to celebrate his return.

Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip, Snoop Dogg, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-ONE and “Miss Rap Supreme” runner up Byata will all be featured on the album, set to drop in March of ’09.

“As a DJ, I’ve been blessed to see many different people, places and styles,” Flash said in a statement. “The album title represents all the bridges I’ve crossed worldwide.”

The iconic DJ made history last year, along with his group the Furious Five, by becoming the first hip-hop act to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Flash, Melle Mel, Cowboy, Kid Creole, Scorpio and Raheim were recognized for their early contributions to rap music, including their groundbreaking song “The Message” and pioneering the use of two turntables and a mixer. – Jesse Gissen

Unfortunately this album won’t be marketable to… anybody. I understand hip hop history but sadly enough none of my peers probably even know who Grandmaster Flash is. BTW I was born in ’85

I GOT A QUESTION. HOW COME WHEN AN EAST COAST OR DOWN SOUTH ARTIST WANTS SOME WEST COAST FLAVA ON THEIR ALBUM, MORE OFTEN THAN NOT ITS SNOOP? WE GOT A WIDE VARIETY OF TALENTED MC’S OUT HERE. NOT HATING ON SNOOP BUT THE SPREAD THE LOVE AROUND

    VIVA GRANDMASTER FLASH!

Real shit. His last album was absolute garbage. He needs to stick to coaching Pop Warner. A lot of these older artists on the West aren’t doing anything to promote the New West. They’d rather put a bunch of r&b singers on their albums than build up their own artists. That’s why up and coming artists like Glasses Malone or Strong Arm Steady left West Coast labels to sign to labels in other regions because they know they won’t be another forgotten artist who’s albums been due out for two years or more, stuck like chuck on a West Coast label that won’t promote them and puts more emphasis on artists from other regions (for example Bishop Lamont on Aftermath, or Ya Boy on Black Wall Street). Cats like Crooked I are getting more of a Co-sign from East Coast rappers than they are from their own coast.

I’ve seen rappers from my city who aren’t really known on a major level outside of L.A., the Bay Area, or Vegas, that make more money independently moving units through moms and pops stores and swap meets or doing shows, than they did on a label. While you got small artists on major labels out here that are broke as fuck. There’s small time rappers doing better on internet labels even. It’s not like the South where everybody looks out for each other, making guest appearances with each other and letting artists on their labels get callabo shine on their albums.

This is great to hear, because 90% of Hip Hop out now is nothing but autotune, snappin and rollin bullshit, with a combination of faggots and overrated-ass, no talent rappers topping the charts. We need a breath of fresh air! Welcome Back Flash, and with that line-up you got ready for the new album, I know it’s going to be hot!
