Jay-Z Sets Up Educational Fund For Sean Bell’s Children

Jay-Z has established educational funds for shooting victim Sean Bell’s children, XXLmag.com has learned. The hip-hop mogul and Bell’s fiance Nicole Paultre (who later changed her surname to Bell), along with her attorney, worked out the details involving the charitable offer months ago, according to a source close to the rapper. It’s not clear yet the particular details of the agreement, but it is assumed the Brooklyn icon’s contribution will help send both of Bell’s children to college, should they choose to go. A New York judge acquitted the three detectives who fired the 51 shots that took Bell’s life and wounded two of his friends after the group left Bell’s bachelor party in Queens. A number of rallies have been held to protest the controversial verdict. The highly-charged trial was followed closely around the country by many and prior to and after the case, a number of rappers, including Papoose, Joell Ortiz, and The Game, voiced their support for Bell and his family in song.

    Man, it’s too bad most of these comments reflect the lack of information or familiarity w/ the case. I live in NYC and if you try to run a cop over w/ your car, a black cop at that, you gon get all them clips emptied on you. The media puts a white face (NYPD) against the poor defenseless black man, but the case was about 3 cops (2 black, 1 white), that yes over-reacted ,but were defending them selves from a threat. The white cop was actually the last one to empty his $h!t. The trial was to see if they were criminally liable, they weren’t. But they were guilty of using bad judgment and shouldn’t be allowed to stay cops.

    I just wanna say been a jay fan from way back and always had a respect for big homies talent. But the respect i feel for shawn carter (jay-z is a rapper, shawn carter is a man)now is a whole different kind of respect. Its the respect of admiring his heart and not just his lyrics (which are dope). Thats just interesting to me tho that all these rappers that call jay a snake and disloyal and so much more, havent put up a dime. What does a song about Young Mr. Bell’s situation do for his family? Nothing. Putting his kids thru college? That takes a real man, that takes real heart. And we always hear about hip hop negativity in the media (oprah, cnn, bill o’reilly, etc.) I’ll put some paper up that Jay’s generous act in this situation doesnt make it to any of those shows. And for the record all ya’ll haters. HIP HOP IS A MOVEMENT, WHICH MEANS IT WILL NEVER DIE!

    everywhere are taking a stand rather in their music, in their clothes,
    and now with a National Boycott that will take place May 19th to the
    23rd. In support of the Bell family and friends, the efforts of the
    boycott is to make a difference in the only language they understand,
    the almighty dollar. They are asking on those dates, to boycott gas
    stations, grocery stores, etc. Fill up your tank and do your grocery
    shopping prior to May 19th. Carpool to work, or walk if convenient,
    bring bagged lunches or leftovers, and try to not spend one penny that
    week. Make a donation of at least $5 to Black/Hispanic organization.
    In all hopes to unite and make a change.
