Bay Area MC Paperboy Facing New Drug Charges

Oakland rapper Paperboy, best known for his 1993 hit “Ditty,” was arrested on drug possession charges during a traffic stop in Merced, Ca. on Wednesday night (March 19). According to the Merced Sun-Star, the rapper was pulled over by police for a broken brake light as he was drove on the 2200 block of Q street at around 11:10. The officers searched the car after smelling marijuana and found less than an ounce of the substance and a bottle of prescription medication that did not belong to Paperboy, whose real name is Mitchell Charles Johnson. He was charged with marijuana possession and transportation, illegal possession of prescription medication and driving on a suspended license. The bust is the second in less than a year for the veteran MC, who was arrested last June under nearly identical circumstances. In October he plead no contest to felony charges of possession of marijuana for sale, and received three years probation. Attorney Salvatore Sciandra, who represented him in the original case, told the Sun-Star that he was unsure whether or not he will represent the rapper on the new charges. Johnson enjoyed moderate success in the early 90’s after “Ditty” received a Grammy nomination and reached No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

      yep some of these old rappers didn’t really get no money at the beginning. they just opened doors for the ti’s and jeezy’s to come in and make the money. hip hop’s doors are off the hinges now, so anybody gettin in the game now wit a hit song is gonna make more than Paperboy did back then. it’s a fact. but these broken tail lights ain’t no thing. remember this is how Mr. Dean from the Ruff Ryders got pulled over wit a key in his car. Now somehow DMX’s house is gettin raided. ? Who’s snitching here Mr. Dean? Now for those that don’t know who Mr. Dean is, he is the ‘Baby’ of Ruff Ryders. Mr. Dean hasn’t even gone to court yet and it’s been like a year. But look Gillie got cleared of all his shit in Philly. O and back in the day, did anybody know that Baby went to prison for having a lot of coke, like a key or so. But he got out a couple years after being locked up. Rumor has it that his brother, Slim, paid off the governor for a pardon. Wow. Now look at Houston wit Lil Troy, the ‘wanna be a baller’ guy. Him and Scarface have been throwing jabs back and forth about each other snitching. One has to be. But remember Lil Troy is the one that gave Scarface his start in this game. So, as we have it there are a lot of dirty mo fo’s out there. The rap game is filled wit a lot of them. Anybody that don’t believe my facts, just google them. Find the ‘truth’. A lot of these rappers are wack, fake, and just plain want your money. There’s a word for that:
      N I G G E R. The rap game is filled wit em. Fake ass people.
