RUMOR: G-Unit Clothing Shutting Down?

According to industry gossip and a recent post on clothing retailer Dr. Jay’s website, 50 Cent’s G-Unit Clothing may be just days away from shutting down their offices. Since being founded in 2004, G-Unit has operated through a joint venture with Ecko, who manufactured the company’s product. Rumor has it that that deal has run its course, and the two companies will now be going their separate ways, as exhibited by the recent firing of high-level design and marketing employees. Friday is expected to be their last official day of business operations. It’s not yet clear if 50 will be taking the G-Unit brand to a new partner, striking out on his own or shutting down his clothing enterprise all together.

    This isn’t exactly a major loss to the world of hip hop fashion. I mean many brands as stated before run their course while others just never really appeal to their attended customers. To go this long is a whole lot better than many other artist brands have gone including the likes of Busta, Outkast, Wu, Naughty, Snoop and many, many other including Em himself. To tell the truth in the last 15 years I’ve seen designs & colors far beyond just horrible … I’m sure everyone has seen some kind of radioactive bright ass color sweatshirt that even your girl wouldn’t wear and said to yourself “You want me to pay you for this sh%t!” or some rag-tag looking jeans that make you say “I’m paying for your to dingy and rip up these joints before I buy it?”. I just think fashion is a hit or miss thing and when it’s time to go… just go. I mean more than half of the designs for these lines are not by the artist and they are by people not really in touch with the market they are trying to appeal to or they just have to specific an audience as to who they are marketing to. Either way this is not a major disappointment or a surprise when a business isn’t making money, there is no need to pour more money into it trying to postpone the inevitable.

    For one I cant see G-Unit Clothing shutting down just yet, as far as I’m aware the manufacturing deal with ECKO is coming to an end and G-Unit clothing, I guess will have options to take the brand to another manufacturer or whatever. They’re not going out of business, they still making money!
