50-cent.jpgAccording to the New York Daily News, 50 Cent is accusing Kanye West of cheating to win their SoundScan battle last week when both artists released their new albums on the same date. In an interview with UK music magazine Uncut, Fif said, “He’s never had a fraction of the sales 50 Cent has. They could have only one scan and have it count four times. West’s entire career hasn’t sold half what I sold on my first album.” While the SoundScan figures for ‘Ye’s Graduation and 50’s Curtis will not be announced in the U.S. until tomorrow morning (September 19), Kanye has already beaten 50 in the UK and the same results are expected in the U.S. According to several music industry trade publications, Graduation is expected to sell over 800,000 copies, while Fif will enter at No. 2 with over 600,000 units. While 50 says Def Jam has rigged the sales, according to Billboard’s Geoff Mayfield, that claim is highly unlikely. “The people who built SoundScan,” he says. “Put safeguards in place to track sales that don’t look kosher.”
