Variety reported that Ice Cube has signed on to star in and produce Dimension Films’ big screen adaptation of the ’70s sitcom Welcome Back Kotter. Cube will take on the role of Gabe Kotter, the teacher who returns to his inner-city school to teach valuable lessons to the next generation of rabble-rousing misfits. The original made a star out of John Travolta, who played the wisecracking leader of a troublemaking crew of students called the Sweathogs. Tom Brady, writer of The Hot Chick and The Animal, is expected to write and direct the film.
