Lando Calrissian's pansexuality might be a national news story, but Childish Gambino, who plays the character in Solo: A Star Wars Storywas apparently privy to that bit of information from the jump. He says as much in a new interview Sirius XM posted today (May 21).

Speaking on the matter of his character's sexuality, Gambino suggested that being pansexual was pretty much inevitable while being in space.

“How can you not be pansexual in space?" Gambino responded after being told about Lando's sexuality. “There are so many things to have sex with. I didn’t think that was that weird. Yeah, he’s coming on to everybody. I mean, yeah, whatever. It just didn’t seem that weird to me ‘cause I feel like if you’re in space it’s kind of like, the door is open! It’s like, no, only guys or girls. No, it’s anything. This thing is literally a blob. Are you a man or a woman? Like, who cares? Have good time out here.”

The topic of Lando's sexuality initially surfaced in the media after some critics who saw Solo suggested that Lando and Han Solo had been flirting in the film. That led one Huffington Post journalist to ask Jonathan Kasdan, who co-wrote Solo with his father, Lawrence, if Lando was pansexual.

“I would say yes,” Jonathan Kasdan emphatically said.“There’s a fluidity to Donald and Billy Dee’s [portrayal of Lando’s] sexuality,” Kasdan continued. “I mean, I would have loved to have gotten a more explicitly LGBT character into this movie. I think it’s time, certainly, for that, and I love the fluidity ― sort of the spectrum of sexuality that Donald appeals to and that droids are a part of.”
