Ja Rule’s Fyre Festival Gets Postponed After Attendees Complain of Chaos
The 2017 Fyre Festival was supposed to be an ultra-swanky island party headlined by G.O.O.D. Music with other performers sharing the stage. Now it's being postponed after plenty of attendees reported they received less than they bargained for. Much less.
Using social media to get their complaints heard, several Twitter users documented their experience at the festival, and needless to say, none of it's been good. "Early report is that many of the tents aren't assembled. Here's their tropical private island owned by Escobar! #FyreFestival," posted someone using a Twitter account by the name of FyreFestivalFraud along with a video of tents decorating the sand.
Other Fyre Festival attendees complained about the cuisine, which reportedly consisted of ham and cheese sandwiches, instead of the sorts of upscale food they were expecting. "Ja Rule's idea of a 'gourmet' meal, inspired by: time spent in his prison's cafeteria #fyrefestival," wrote one Twitter user who uploaded a picture of a Styrofoam container filled with a very plain-looking cheese sandwich.
Ja Rule was hosting the festival, which was created by the rapper and entrepreneur Billy McFarland. Tickets for the experience start at $1,500.
Making matters worse, another Twitter user even reported that they'd "been locked indoors with no air, no food and no water" at the festival, which they, like plenty of others, are already calling a fraud. Yikes.
All of these unexpected issues have led the Fyre Festival to postpone the event and offer up refunds for attendees. "Due to unforeseen and extenuating circumstances, Fyre Festival has been fully postponed," reads the festival organizer's statement on Twitter. "After assessing the situation this morning and looking at best options for our guests, we cannot move forward as we hoped we could. At this time, we are working tirelessly to get flights scheduled and get all travelers home safely."
Details surrounding this story are still coming in, but it's definitely not a good look. You can see some of the attendees' reactions to the alleged chaos in our gallery below as well as other tweets and social media posts documenting the experiencel.
