Three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), a new artist is featured on XXLMag.com’s The Break. An ideal destination for fans, artists, and industry members, The Break showcases up and coming talent, giving a brief introduction on the artist or group, and highlighting some of their standout music. Each month, industry insiders will team with XXL to rate and comment on the submissions.

For the month of June, Ron Stewart—who will serve as one of three judges—checked out the section to see what yesterday’s talent (Yonas) had to offer. Check out his comments below.

I never heard of Chip Gnarly until my nephew sent me. "Dear" in February, so I was eager to hear what these records sound like. "You Gonna Learn Today" is a record I like the most. Gives me that vintage West Coast feel. His flow and rhyme style and wordplay sounds young, fresh and new. The hook connects and he sells it well. The production does it for me. The video looks like money and brings us into his world.

"Perseverance" is another record with good production. A record to ride to. I think he has great potential , his voice cuts through the clutter. This video is more of a "Day In The Life" crew by my side kind of thing. This one makes you pay attention to the lyrics more. He has the triple threat factor. Beats, Rhymes and Life. This is hip hop right here...let's just hope one of these A&Rs agree with me.
