Amir Obé is back with his first new song in over a year. The Detroit-bred, Brooklyn-based rapper released the track "Holy Shit" on Friday (Aug. 17) and an accompanying music video featuring some trippy images of high art.

Obé opens the Sebastian Sdaigui-directed visual by entering a nightclub, only to be transported into what appears to be a museum exhibiting Renaissance-era work. It's not The Louvre, but the effect is similar. Heavily tattooed, shirtless men dance and mosh in the background.

A caption written in Latin appears early in the clip and reads, "jures vitae beatitudinem consequendam libertatem," which roughly translates to, "The fundamental rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

The Def Jam signee's song leans into that sense of gravitas, if in service of studying a relationship. Over a beat featuring background vocals that land somewhere between a choir and gregorian chants, Obé serves a hook that flips the title into a spiritual question.

"Holy shit, I'm awake, holy shit, holy shit/Why you actin' holy? You ain't this," goes the chorus. It's directed at a lover whom Obé seems to realize is not the one.

"Sittin' right beside you/I've been livin' with a liar/It'll make two if I promise/Never go playin' around with fire," he raps in the first verse.

The Nylz-produced single is Obé's first drop since his None of the Clocks Work EP, released back in March of 2017. The song stands as Chapter 1 of his forthcoming project, CBA_H. The rapper definitely has music in the stash.
