This list is nowhere near as strong as last years group! Mainly because last year i didnt know much about any of them and when they came around it was fresh. With this years group, so many of them are already fairly well known and people know what their about. nippsey hustle and jay rock have been putting out decent material for the last year, pill has been getting a fair bit of spotlight recently with his last mixtape and J. Cole is talented enough without the label of xxl freshman around his neck, fashawn and wiz khalifa have both released albums over the last year with fashawn in particular getting great plaudits from this magazine. Surely once you release an album your no longer new so cant be considered a freshman? I dont know much about Freddie Gibbs, Donnis or Big Sean so they make it exciting. Finally OJ da Juiceman (who isnt good enough anyway) has already appeared on the cover of this publication! so whats fresh about that? i thought the whole point of this issue was to bring new unknown artists into the spotlight? not to boost the careers of artists already starting to establish themselves

I just gotta say one more thing. Do the people at XXL read these comments? Seriously, does anybody know? Cause I think if they gave a shit about the fans, and the people spending money on this SHIT, they would. I dont really like OJ but you gotta understand why hes on there. If you notice, all of these 10 are very good at what they specialize in. They all make you feel some way. J.Cole makes you want to smarten up but keep the hood in you. and OJ makes you feel like smokin weed. The only good ones I think are J.Cole, Big Sean and Freddie Gibbs. I been lisnen to J.Cole since The come up and the warm up and all of these songs are nice. He has the realist stories, realist metaphors, realist punchlines. his freestyles could be better but put a pen and his hand and hes comin for yah head. theres a reason why Jay-Z signed him to roc nation as firt artist knowing that the hip hop world would have an eye on J.Cole for that reason.
