Lauryn Hill has been a mystery in the years following the release of her debut album, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. People magazine reports on the troubled singer in their new issue, currently on stands featuring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on the cover.
“She writes music in the bathroom, on toilet paper, on the wall,” said Rohan Marley, the father of Hill’s five children. “She writes it in the mirror if the mirror smokes up. She writes constantly. This woman does not sleep.”
The reporter, however, paints a different picture of Hill. The former Grammy Award winner is not a suburban mother who lives in New Jersey with her three boys, two daughters, and her mother, Valerie.
After a stalled Fugees reunion, that only saw the release of a warm-up single, “Take It Easy,” Hill toured briefly before going back into seclusion.
One of her last public appearances was last summer during a show in Brooklyn, New York. The singer’s makeup was caked on and she donned a afro wig; she was hours late to the concert, causing many in attendance to boo her and leave early.
A source at her label, Sony, told People the singer is still signed to the company as a recording artist, but is currently “on hiatus.”—Anthony Thomas

Maybe since she had that lawsuit arise from the making of her album her writers jumped ship. Cause ole girl fell off major. Marley got a hold of her put some babies in her and now it seems its a wrap.

Damn shame. lauryn Hill was by far one of the best female lyricist ever. Damn Marley boy got her goin nuts or something. She got sane for yay long and then that was it. I thought she would come back and really dominate shit, but she failed me to death. I’m not holding my breath on her at all. Hopefully seh get her shit together. To each his own though.

That nigga Rohan is the one that made her crazy! Sorry fucker wouldn’t even stand up himself when she was getting an ovation. He put that Dexter St. Jacque shit on her and she has never been the same. Then again, maybe she got ahold of some of that “Straight Fiya!!!” and it fucked her up. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Why are we playing ourselves? Lauryn Hill is through. It’s tragic to see someone who once such a talented artist fall this far from grace but this isn’t 1997 and she hasn’t made any kind of music worth a damn since the Miseducation. I miss her but after her surprise reunion with Pras & Clef on that BET Awards show and I heard how god awful her voice was now… I just wanted her to stay gone and let me remember her as she was. People need to stop telling her she can still rock it like she did over ten years ago because her career for all intents and purposes is over. We Miss and Appreciate You Lauryn but do something Brett Favre can’t - ” Resist the Itch ” and stay away from the studio or stage. Don’t further tarnish your legacy as one of the best singers/artists to ever do it.
