With Wu-Tang’s fifth studio album 8 Diagrams hitting stores tomorrow (Dec. 11), Raekwon spoke to MTV about his plans to record a new Clan album without RZA called Shaolin vs. the Wu-Tang. Rae has been very vocal in the last month about his discontent with the musical direction in which RZA took the new Wu album, claiming the other members didn’t have enough input. When asked about his plans for a RZA-less Wu album, Raekwon had this to say:
“That’s how I feel right now…It’s coming and it’s gonna be a lesson learned. That’s a lesson to bust the Abbott’s ass and let him know what we do. At the end of the day, if nobody don’t do nothing, Chef’s gonna show and prove. You [can only] hold in but so much, my dude.”
He continued:
“You dealing with a whole crew collectively, and [our] collective thoughts…You gotta keep that a part of the protocol. That wasn’t a part of the protocol — we still try to give this man as much props as he deserves, ’cause he did so much. It’s like listening to [Michael] Jordan, saying, ‘Follow my hand.’ But at the same time, Jordan ain’t been around for a while. So now it’s gotta be about the team. Ain’t no I’s in team. When Jordan’s head gets too big, you gotta tell Jordan that’s what it ain’t about. It’s team.”

Yo, big ups to RZA and the rest of the WU… Hopefully they can get over this lil’ stupid misunderstanding. If they would have did a double disk, put out RZA’s so-called “WHACK” ablum and then put out Shaolin vs. the Wu Tang, shit woulda been certified classic. Just to show people that they could do a commercial/worldy CD and still come wit’ the grime and gutter…

big ups to the Chef. i think if it’s a group project then it should be about the group’s thoughts. maybe early on in the game peeps didn’t know shit, but they been in for a min. they know what they like and it should have been a group effort for the Wu. Hopefully the group will reconcile and put their heads together. Shit they might put Redman in place of the Riz. ha.

I agree. I love Ghost, but he and Rae have completely missed the boat on this. They don’t get what RZA was trying to do. ‘8 Diagrams’ is the kind of record that requires attention and patience - it’s not going to hit you all at once. RZA made one for the ages. ‘Big Doe Rehab’ is really good, but it’s all the same kind of thing, over and over. And when was the last Rae record that was worth a damn? RZA is trying to push things forward. A RZA-less Wu album is going to sound like those 9 million wack-ass mixtapes Rae & everybody else shove down our throats every 6 months.

Wow, Anghell might as well just give up listening to Wu if Rae and Ghost (the Clan’s best MC) quit. I agree with Ghost Deini on this one.

Fuck it - Rae, Ghost and Meth should do an album with just the three of them. All the shit that’s just those three has been dope - Scary Hours, Projects, Box in Hand, Yolanda’s House, etc.
On the other hand, someone needs to get the Chef a cup of coffee or some yay, cause dude sounds bored with his own rhymes these days or like he’s half asleep. No charisma. I’m not even looking forward to Cuban Linx II (never thought I’d say that.)

8 Diagrams is dope… RZA is a master producer, he’s evolved as a person as well as on the boards
Rae hasn’t released shit, still living in OB4CL era, we’ve been hearing OB4CL coming soon for years where is it?
How is Rae going to pull together a new album when he can’t even release his own shit and gets dropped from Aftermath.
When he could have dropped album after album on an indy label, instead he’s letting labels trick him over and going after the master RZA when RZA’s dropped one album after the next, soundtracks, scores, animation the list is endless.

They are all a bunch of old washed-up has beens:
RZA - Fell off hard after Wu Tang forever, scored a few lousy movies since, needs to retire, cause his new beat are a joke.
Raekwon - Got his fat-ass dropped by Aftermath, and hasn’t done anything memorable for the past 10 years.
U-God - Who?
GZA - still making those sleep inducing rhymes.
Ghostface - overrated, shouts over his beats, and most of his lyrics don’t make sense.
Inspector Deck - monotonous, and lacks any charisma
Cappadonna - Dirty tramp-like homeless cab driver. Enough said.
Method Man - looks like a crackhead, made the worse ablum of all time: “Tical Prequel” And completely lost all his MC skills. Needs to go back to selling weed.
Masta Killa - Talks instead of rapping, lacks any kind of presence; if he got killed, no one would miss him or give a damn.

I’m just glad to see WU in the news. I haven’t heard the whole album but the songs I did hear sound aiight. I can see why rae and ghost don’t like em. For 8 diagrams I was expecting to hear shit like 9 milli bros from fishscale. Its all good cuz if youre a real head you probably got your fix with the big doe rehab anyway.

Vicious Seiger says:
The Boys need to step back and breathe and maybe do a double disc one album the way RZA intended and one the way the rest of the clan intended. ala how some artist release albums with a chopped and screwed B-side. Damn shame things came to this but at least the clan kept in civil. The clan needs to be run like a democracy with equal say and not by one guys singular vision - that’s what made them such a superpower in hip hop unlike so many crews today they all had styles so different.

The new Wu album is “aiight” but I think it could have been alot better. And no I’m not stuck in it sound like it was 1990’s again… but even in the context of TODAY’s music… it could have been a lot better.

These niggaz are just not loyal to the abbot.
“Brothers ain’t brothers no more” (Cilvaringz) tells the whole story. It must have been the abbot’s vision to talk through another pupil of the wu. Just a bunch of back stabbers, Rza just have to let some of the generals go and create a new wu army.

Raekwon is washed up. Wu-tang is still a relevant group as a unit. Raekwon would not even had a classic album if it were not for the rza genius abilities as a producer. You can’t have a real wu album without some input from the rza. The new album was good but it lacked that major componet o.d.b.

As time evolves so must the WU sound.
Nature destroys things that stay stagnant and refuse to change.
The fans liked their music 10 years ago.
They have moved on. We should understand that.
To still be relevant, they need to move on, the clan should understand that.
I feel that the new albumn is dominated by Meth, Ghost, Rae and Masta Killa while the other members are very distant.
A power struggle is evidant!
