Q-Tip and Common Form New Group, The Standard

Thursday Aug 30 11:54 AM CDT posted by xxl staff

q-tip.jpgIn an exclusive interview with XXLMag.com, A Tribe Called Quest frontman, Q-Tip, reveals he’s forming a new group with Common entitled The Standard. “Me and Common [are] getting ready to form a group,” ‘Tip tells XXLMag.com. “We’ll probably run it through the Uni [Universal Records] joint because we’re both on Universal.” According to The Abstract, it was Common who suggested the two from a group. “It was more of his suggestion,” he says. “He was like, “We just need to do a record.” So I’m really excited about that.” While the two haven’t started recording together yet, The Standard will start churning out material once the two starting touring together in a few weeks. As far as the production on the album, though, fans can expect Q-Tip to handle the majority. “I’m probably gonna do a lot of it,” ‘Tip says. “And we’ll get Kanye [West] on a couple things, but you know, that cat is busy.”

This will be great for hip hop. Q-tip is already a good producer but if kanye pitches in to help it could be a classic. The 25 and younger kids must listen to the A Tribe Called Quest albums Q-tip did and the early Common albums also- Classic hip hop!! The new rappers are only influenced about sex, money, drugs and cars. Rappers like Q and Common make you think about more meaningful topics that are in our daily lives motivate us to be better people.

A good Producer? are you crazy, Q-tip is a legendary producer…he produced the majority of the Tribe Albums, that alone would put him i the Hip Hop hall of fame, not to mention Tracks on the 1st Mobb Deep Classic Album, and Nas’s Illmatic!…Even without KAnyes tracks, the group is fine on the production side!

I read this earlier on GlobalGrind.com so it’s had a little time to sink in. I don’t know if I would be so quick to jump on the dilz nilz of a Tip(sorry T.I. he had it first) and Common Joint. Now lets be honest here…Tribe has always been a force to be reckoned with(except for that album in the all white cover that I bought at 12 midnight) that was a huge disappointment. Common on the other hand has had his moments both good and bad and I guess I don’t have to mention the crocheted pants. What a minute! Q-tip you are guilty of a few gruesome fashion violations as well. Anyway, let me get back to the music for those of you that don’t think fashion is as much a part of the music as the lyrics. To make a long story short I just hope they mesh well and bring something substantial to the table. I’m no hater so I look forward to Common bringing Q-Tip back aboard the Hip-Hop LoveBoat. But Common beware this album could be the tip of the iceberg (pun intended) of a sinking ship.

Now start a new native tongues movement so we will truly have something to bump our gums about. Can you imagine the callabo’s?

Not to knock your so called respect for hip hop history but it seems like you have none. We need to stop holding these artists to such a high standard cause we all know that Q-TIP isn’t gonna get back with Tribe and record another LOW END THEORY or MIDNIGHT MARAUDERS and COMMON isn’t gonna link up with NO Id and do another RESURRECTION. This collabo is long awaited and far overdue. This suggests that HIP HOP IS NOT DEAD.
