On this day, Nov. 24, in hip-hop history…

1998: On this day, Nov. 24, exactly 20 years ago, RZA released his debut solo album, RZA as Bobby Digital in Stereo. The album, whose title comes from RZA's birth name, Robert Diggs, is an experimental LP which finds the Wu-Tang producer largely eschewing his trademark sample-based production, and opting for a keyboard driven sound. Said RZA about the production on the album: "I got together at least 16 or 17 different keyboards for this album. I always liked orchestras and strings, so I composed a digital orchestra."

The album showcased the alter ego of RZA in many ways, not only as it pertained to the style of production, but in the lyrical content as well. The project found RZA rapping about more aggressive topics as opposed to the spiritual and self-reflective content the rapper has been known for throughout the years. With highlights that include tracks such as "B.O.B.B.Y" and "Love Jones," RZA as Bobby Digital in Stereo remains one of the more interesting and experimental Wu-Tang solo projects released to date. Nearly two decades later, Bobby Digital stands out among the crew's total discography.
