Today In Hip-Hop: Cappadonna Drops Debut Album

On this day, March 24th, in hip-hop history…

1998: Wu-Tang Clan member Cappadonna released his debut album The Pillage. The Staten Island emcee was included in the original line-up of the Wu with Raekwon, RZA and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, however, he was replaced by Method Man after he was sent to jail. It wouldn’t be until 1995 that Cappadonna would make his debut on Rae’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… single “Ice Cream.”

When released in ’98, Cappa’s The Pillage peaked at #3 on the charts. The album would eventually go gold, selling over 500,00 copies. The album sports production from Wu-Tang heavyweights RZA, True Master, Allah Mathematics and 4th Disciple, as well as guest features from Ghostface Killah, U-God, Raekwon and more. Cappa has released six solo albums since then, including last month’s Eyrth, Wynd and Fyre.
