  • General

Thank God we are talkin about sales and not about the whether or not we think the album will be any good…

    • Around and Around

Yes because we all know that how much an album sells makes us -the consumers- feel better…really who cares?

How this nigga eats won’t make me shit.

  • Pierzy

Clovito has some faith in dude!

9,250 copies…and that includes the free downloads.

  • Enlightened

Damn, I didn’t even know Mos was about to drop… therefore, I’ll say 18,500.

  • $ykotic

No one saw David Letterman last night? Mos ripped it!

    Co-sign Jackpot-25k

    • Pierzy

I saw it because I’m a huge Stern fan, but I don’t see him selling out the stores…

      • $ykotic

Crazy ass Howard. Funny as hell. I went that high because he is a known actor with a movie out. That helps.

        • http://tonygrands.blogspot.com Tony Grand$

          Cosign $yk.

That’s going to be the driving force. The “artsy” folks who really enjoy his on-screen presence.

Heads are on him, but it’s still a sketchy situation judging by the last couple of offerings.

I think he’s ill, but I’d rather see him performing in a movie. Even if he does seem to play the same drunk, sort of slow-witted fellow.

  • El Tico Loco

I bet is a dope album, but I see going double cardboard.

    • BIGNAT

nah homie mos going triple cedar wood. i didn’t even know mos was dropping he going at least 10k.

  • geico lizard

    38K

  • 206

    XXL,

No one gives a sh*t about how much an artist sells in their first week. All we care about is if the music is good or not.

  • El Tico Loco

Do you guys know how long it used to take for artists to go platinum before Thriller dropped? So why get all caught up in sales numbers, they just need to make sure they drop hot joints and keep it pushing everything else will come in due time, just get them concerts poppin

    • Jamal7Mile

      What’s up Loco?

“Thriller” was an unheard-of Earth/Meteorite collision!!!!! There will NEVVVVAR be another Thriller! That record changed the record business in every which way it could possibly be changed. If XXL ran an entire issue based on THRILLER and the aftermaths that are still felt in the biz today, I wouldn’t be mad. It’s still relevant in Hip-Hop… and Pop, Rock, Country, Reggae, World music, Salsa, dance, videos (it fuckin’ MADE MTV), record contracts, tours…

THRILLER took food off the plates of Prince, Lionel Ritchie, Rick James, DeBarge… and ALL of them artist put out timeless shit during ’83-’87!!!

      Oh man…

      THRILLER!!

*yeah, it’s a rant! But Tico mentioned THRILLER!!*

      LOL

  • BR4

If its anything like “Black on Both Sides” its gonna be dope….

Fu*k sales! i got better things to do then check for how many copies fly off the shelf, who gives a sh*t honestly?… if the musics hot the albums hot, if the albums hot, im gon bump it!… i dont care if it sells 2 or 10 milli thats not my concern i dont eat off duke.

  • latino heat

most people don’t know it’s dropping and i think it’s on a indy label, so i say about 15,000 if he’s lucky.
i don’t have my hopes up for this album being any good based on his last 2 shit sandwich albums.

    • http://www.myspace.com/emcdlthemusicprofile EmCDL

I co sign with latino heat…not that I really care about album sales or anything, because its all about the product at the end of the day. Me and my homie just copped our copies today and from what I heard from it so far its real good….some of the beats remind of DOOM’s old stuff. I plan on listening to the rest of it either tonight or tomorrow during work.

      @ Tony Grand$

Yo I got that Blackout!2 album too by the way. I went back and listened to the first Blackout again just for old times’ sake and decided to get their ‘sequel’ LOL. Haven’t heard it yet but I’ll let you know what I think of it after listening to it.

      • $ykotic

B!2 is gonna have you turning on your equipment…

        • http://tonygrands.blogspot.com Tony Grand$

          @ Em

          Word

          @ $yk

          Word x 2

  • te noh

Who the fuck cares? Everyone knows Mos isn’t going to sell that well. “First Week Sales Predictions” is just XXL staff’s way of being lazy and not writing a column. Although, looking at some of their past columns, maybe that’s not such a bad thing.

    • te noh

Sorry, not “XXL Staff” but “Tha Office.”

Keepin’ it x-tra gully with tha “Tha.”

  • Azhar

Just short of 20k, like 19,500

  • http://tonygrands.blogspot.com Tony Grand$

    12,000

  • nycboy

I mean seriously? We can’t find a better column to post? It’s 2009 and the best thing we can discuss is who is selling what, give me a fucking break man. Is everybody’s Tuesday that boring that we gotta take tabs on how much a dude sells.

  • $ykotic

Real talk. We true hiphoppers know the real value of CD’s/CRT’s/projects. Because it is a Billion + dollar business now the numbers do matter because of the investments involved.

N*ggas gamble. That’s numbers. MegaMillions? Powerball? Numbers.

Ain’t nothing wrong with having a little fun guessing. Sh*t we don’t even win T-shirts.

    • nycboy

True hip hop heads know the real value of good music, fuck all that corporate shit that tags along with it. It took Illmatic like 3, 4 years just to go platinum. You think people made that the center of their attention, no. It’s hip hop at it’s finest because people recognize the quality for what it is. If Mos brings that real, his core audience will follow and thats that. Fuck numbers.

      • Jamal7Mile

        What’s up NYCBOY?

I see whatcha saying on the numbers gripe, but I take it all in stride most of the time. Records sold = used ASS PAPER when talking about the enjoyability of said record. You gave the perfect example of that when you typed the holy words “Illmatic”. People just don’t know!!

But what can we do, man???

Me? I choose to keep playing those REAL albums for anybody that don’t know… that is, if they have the patience to sit down, listen and understand my explaination of what real Hip-Hop Music is (or was).

2009 is looking like a good year, though. I see it going back to the Roots already. Of course, there will be some resistance (What the fk happened to Jazzy Jeff in St. Louis??).

  • DETROIT

IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW MUCH HE SELLS….HAVE YOU HEARD HIS NEW SINGLE? IT’S BEEN YEARS SINCE I’VE HEARD SOMETHING THAT FRESH AND INNOVATIVE! (and i’m not a mos fan!)

  • DazzOne

People like The Roots, Tilib, and Mos are known not to sell, but everybody knows these dudes wreck the mic officially.

You just can’t help wanting to see your favorite rappers doing good.

  • AvengerXL

Due to his ever present stans he should sell in the low thousands in the first day like 5,000 or so and the album as a whole will stall around 35,000 and limp to 100,000. It wouldn’t be gold unless he has a label like Jadakiss willing to inflate a buzz buying promo copies which he doesn’t.

  • JCITYHUSTLA617

    8,5OO

  • Ali

    22,500

  • Thomas

    5,000

If that. People aren’t going to buy the album cause they already downloaded it. This is why the music biz in its current state. No support at retail.

    I pre-ordered mine…waiting for it now.

  • Twisted

mos def is my nigga but i think he will push 250 copies the 1st 2 days, by the end of the week MAYBE 1250-2500 unita

  • DV8

come on you know people dont buy real hiphop music. they only buy the version of hiphop thats played on the radio.

  • THELUPEND

I WANT TO SAY 200K BUT THAT SHIT AINT GONNA HAPPEN.SO AROUND 50,000
