The 2018 Made in America Festival just leveled up with the surprise addition of Kendrick Lamar to the lineup next month. K. Dot will perform "a very special set," the festival announced today (Aug. 13).

Lamar joins previously announced headliners Nicki Minaj, Post Malone and Meek Mill at the two-day event in downtown Philadelphia on Sept. 1 and 2. Pusha-T, Janelle Monae, Ty Dolla $ign, BlocBoy JB, Fat Joe and Juice Wrld, among others, will also perform.

It's unclear what will make Kung Fu Kenny's set "very special," but the prospect of new music feels possible. His latest solo album, Damn., dropped last April and TDE released the Black Panther soundtrack in February. The Pulitzer-winning rapper and his labelmates wrapped their Championship Tour in June.

The announcement follows a dramatic few weeks for Jay-Z's music festival, hosted for seven years on Philadelphia's historic Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The city threatened to relocate future installments, prompting Hov to publish an editorial questioning whether the move was racially motivated. Philly's mayor ultimately backed away from the decision.
