The Trump administration's new immigration policy, which includes separating children from their parents, has resulted in national outrage as many call for reform. Over the past week, hip-hop vets like NasT.I., Ice T and a handful of others have joined this chorus for change as more harrowing details surrounding the policy have been brought to light.

Back in April, the Trump administration implemented a "zero-tolerance policy" which enforces the prosecution of adults illegally crossing the border regardless of whether they are alone are accompanied by children. Since its establishment, nearly 2,000 immigrant children have been separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border, the Washington Post reports.

As a result of this, there has been a growing influx of migrant young children requiring government aid. Initial reports revealed that many of these children are placed "tender age" shelters, which have been described as "playrooms of crying preschool-age children in crisis," the Hollywood Reporter learned. The White House intends on opening a fourth shelter to house hundreds of young migrant children in Houston, where city leaders denounced the move on Tuesday (June 19).

The Trump administration has since been blasted by politicians, thought leaders and now the hip-hop community over the despairing photos of young children being placed in cages and using foil sheets as blankets inside U.S. Border Patrol processing stations.
