It feels like every rap legend has an epic, superhero-esque origin story, and now, Lamont Hawkins, more popularly known for his rap alias, U-God, is getting the chance to tell his. Recently, the Wu-Tang Clan member announced RAW: My Journey into the Wu-Tang, an intimate look into the legendary clique's development and his own evolution into a rap legend.

Born in Brownsville, New York City in 1970, U-God was raised by a single mother, U-God faced many of the trials and tribulations that come with life in the inner city. RAW explores that upbringing and his subsequent friendship with the likes of RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, and Masta Killa, who he'd eventually team with to form the Wu-Tang Clan, which released their debut album nearly 25 years ago.

“It’s time to write down not only my legacy, but the story of nine dirt-bomb street thugs who took our everyday life—scrappin’ and hustlin’ and tryin’ to survive in the urban jungle of New York City—and turned that into something bigger than we could possibly imagine, something that took us out of the projects for good, which was the only thing we all wanted in the first place," U-God says in a release.

The book is all set to hit stores on March 6, and you can pre-order it on Amazon. Peep the whole book cover below.
