Lil Jon may be popular for songs such as "Get Low," "Yeah" and "Turn Down for What," but in one are of Ghana, children will now know him for something else.

Last week, the "In the Pit" rapper spent time in the Asuogyaman district of eastern Ghana, opening a primary school. According to the rapper, he teamed up with Pencils of Promise to raise money for the school earlier this year. The Pencils of Promise program is designed to help children around the world receive a quality education. Since 2009, the group has built more than 400 schools.

The school, which is named Abomayaw D.A. Kindergarten, officially opened on Thursday (Oct. 12), and Lil Jon, his wife and son were all on hand to celebrate the occasion. The school is dedicated to the Abomayaw community and Lil Jon's late mother, Carrie M. Smith.

On Instagram, Lil Jon celebrated the event, posting photos of himself at the opening. "Yesterday was a special day for me and my family," he wrote. "We had the ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication of a brand new primary school in Ghana I funded along with @pencilsofpromise I dedicated it to the Abomayaw community and to my mother. God is good."

According to the Ghanaian radio station StarrFM, the new school replaced a worn down building that was in the area. Before the school was built, children of the area were forced to attend school in sheds.
