SZA: Jay-Z Told Me He Thought I Was a Fluke
During a recent conversation with BBC Radio 1Xtra, the fast-rising alternative R&B singer admitted when she met the legendary MC and music mogul, he mirrored the insecurities she sings about on her debut album, Ctrl.
"JAY-Z was the first person to tell me that he thought I was a fluke, to my face," the 26-year-old shares during the radio interview. "I laughed and I said, so do I."
She then implies that Hov used the word "fluke" with a positive connotation as if he experienced disbelief when he heard her music.
"He was just like, 'You're really good, you're pretty good,' and I was like 'Thanks,'" SZA elaborates. "He said, 'I thought you were a fluke' and I was like, 'me too!'
Back in October 2016, SZA posted on Twitter that she was quitting music, a decision that she later backed away from. After releasing her debut studio album back in June 2017 via TDE, she has since gone on to be nominated for a 2017 MTV VMA Award, lend her talents to a remix for Lorde alongside Post Malone and Khalid and has also been tapped to join Bryson Tiller's Set It Off tour kicking off this fall.
Not too shabby to add JAY-Z's co-sign to that list of achievements, either.
