Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” Hits No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart
"Bodak Yellow" is the first song by a female solo raper to top the chart in 19 years. Cardi B is also the second female rapper to ever top the chart by herself; before her, Lauryn Hill hit No. 1 with "Doo Wop (That Thing)" in November 1998. Plus, she's only the fifth female rapper to ever be in the No. 1 spot after Hill, Lil' Kim ("Lady Marmalade" in 2001), Shawnna ("Stand Up" in 2003, and Iggy Azalea ("Fancy" in 2014).
Over the weekend, the Bronx rapper got a nod on Twitter from none other than J. Cole, who told her not to stress about her debut album. “Cardi b I seen your breakfast club interview, loved it,” he wrote. “Don’t put all that pressure on your album. You already won. Just drop & repeat.”
Cardi, who's signed to Atlantic Records, recently revealed her debut album was pushed back a bit. With her hit single now topping the chart, her debut LP should be right around the corner.
Atlantic held a special event to celebrate Cardi hitting No. 1. See the Bronx rapper give a toast to her own success below.
