Rappers and tattoos are virtually synonymous. From the rosary placed atop prayer hands to your favorite MC's hometown permanently inked into their forearms, marking one's self with everlasting designs has remained a trend in the hip-hop genre since the early 1990s.

Nowadays, however, we've seen the most extreme cases of ink addiction as rappers find more unique places to cover their skin. Some years ago, XXL Freshman YG covered his entire head with a portrait of the Virgin Mary. Then there are some rappers who can't seem to break the habit and return to the shop every couple of weeks. In the past year alone, Drake got ink of the legendary Sade on his ribs, his old Twitter handle inspired by a favored French cologne, and even a hibiscus flower to commemorate his latest project, More Life.

For years rappers like Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Birdman and Gucci Mane have decided to take it up a notch and even tat their faces (including, but not limited to their cheeks, forehead and eyelids), but more rappers than not have decided to go under the needle gun on their necks. In a realistic sense, it's entirely understandable seeing that the majority of them will never have to work a corporate nine-to-five another day in their lives—guys like Wiz Khalifa and Gunplay obviously gave up that dream years ago.

As there appears to be a hip-hop artist with a neck tattoo for every day in June and more, XXL has compiled a look at those who are clearly more about that life than just the words they rhyme. Take a look at 33 rappers with neck tattoos in the gallery below.
