The hip-hop community lost one of its most beloved and respected MCs today when it was confirmed that Prodigy of Mobb Deep passed away. As one would expect, an outpouring of condolences has flooded timelines on multiple social media plaforms.

Some of the Twitter posts we've seen so far include a call to all producers to create tribute mixes as well as #HNIC, the acronym for Prodigy's debut solo album from 2000, Head Nigga in Charge. Back in 2007, the rapper had plans to shoot a film with the same name featuring actors Hassan Johnson and J.D. Williams—both from The Wire.

Prodigy was an important figure outside of music. In 2016, he brought some attention to jail conditions for inmates by creating a cookbook, Commissary Kitchen: My Infamous Prison Cookbook, inspired by the difficult times he had managing sickle cell anemia while in jail.

Outside of being a regular feature on New York City posse tracks like those on DJ Kay Slay projects, he also continued to work with newer artists like Domo Genesis on R.I.P. 3 and Mac Miller on "Confession of a Cash Register." He had also squashed his 17-year-old beef with Tru Life late last year as well as collaborated with Marvel's Black Panther on an EDM track that was out of character for him yet not out of pocket.

For these reasons, it's not surprising for other major artists as well as fans from all walks of life to send out positive energy for Prodigy. You can read some of the early reactions on Twitter to Prodigy's death below.
