Taylor Bennett took a major step in life ahead of his 21st birthday. Chance The Rapper's younger brother came out as bisexual today (Jan. 18) in an effort to help others struggling with their identity.

"My birthday is tomorrow & moving into next year I'd like to be more open about myself to help others that struggle with the same issues," Bennett wrote on Twitter. "Growing up I've always felt indifferent about my sexuality & being attracted 2 one sex & today I would like to openly come out to my fans. I do recognize myself as a bisexual male & do & have always openly supported the gay community & will keep doing so in 2017. #ThankYou."

The big revelation from Bennett is another step towards acceptance and understanding within hip-hop. The idea of an openly gay or bisexual male in the mainstream rap world seemed like an impossibility in the past. The hypermasculinity and often blatant homophobia in hip-hop has made it difficult for members of the LGBT community, especially men, to feel welcomed.

Bennett's talent and familial connection to Chance The Rapper could help to break down some barriers that still exist. Fans will learn how Bennett's coming out affects his music soon as he is scheduled to release a short film about his Broad Shoulders album on Jan. 25. The Chicago rapper is also planning to drop a new EP in February. No specific release date for the project has been announced.

After Taylor told the world, his big brother Chance came to his support, posting a video with himself and his brother to Twitter. Watch that below.
