DJ Quik told fans late Friday night (Sept. 24) they could expect new music from him momentarily, and he delivered with a dope new song called "Black Friday." Listen to it above.

The song touches on race relations in the country, questioning why the police want to kill so many black people. He also calls for unity and self-love, spitting, "Ain't no good or bad hair, only fine or coarse hair/That is so divisive, why do my sisters care?"

Elsewhere on the song, Quik goes into what Tupac would do if he was still here: "If Pac was here, he'd write a song that would calm ya down/And I would maybe produce it, give it that Compton sound/He only haunts me now, I seen the truth and further/He knew them rap magazines would instigate his murder." Soon after that, Quiksta even breaks into a little song.

“I wrote this piece because I don’t like the tumultuous air surrounding Black People. Someone had to speak up for the African American community on this Black Friday and I elect Me to do so,” wrote Quik.

It's good to hear Quik making more music, as earlier this year we got his outstanding Rosecrans EP with Compton rapper Problem. They've got a full-length album in the works, too, which is said to feature Dom Kennedy and MC Eiht.

And we haven't forgotten about Street Gospel 2. Months ago Quik revealed he was in the studio with the legendary Suga Free working on some new shit. Hopefully the sequel to Free's classic debut album from '97 comes to fruition soon.
