Recently, hip-hop legend Pete Rock has been critical of newer rappers like Young Dolph and Lil Yachty. Now, 9th Wonder weighs in and defends the new wave of artists.

On Sept. 9, the North Carolina producer unleashed a series of tweets which re-sparked the ongoing debate. What 9th Wonder does best is he looks at the issue from all points of view and tries to gain insight on the perspectives of artists and fans of all ages and musical tastes. In his opinion, even if you don't like the new era of rap, you should try your best to understand why the kids vibe with it.

The former member of Little Brother went back to Twitter on Sept. 12 to keep the debate going. He defends Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, Kodak Black and other artists in their age group; in 9th Wonder's view, you can't really blame them for not knowing their history. 9th thinks that older cats should give them time to grow and evolve, and as they get older, they'll begin to show more appreciation.

Another point that 9th makes is that when adults force something onto kids, it's a good bet the kids are going to hate it no matter what. 9th Wonder has taught at Duke University and lectured at other colleges, and he regularly has these discussions with 18 and 19-year-old kids.

At one point, 9th tweets, "U gotta give kids time for their musical palette to expand. Shit man, I didn't start eating Brussel sprouts until I was older." You can view all the tweets below via his personal account. ICYMI, check out Pete Rock's perspective on mumble rappers.
