St. Louis newcomer Smino gives his lovesick single "Blkjuptr" a beautiful visual treatment with a new music video. Shot by Heart of the City and released yesterday (June 2) on Twitter, the viewer finds Smino wandering through the woods in, like he rhymes, all black until he's stopped by a gorgeous girl with edgy Wednesday Adams style. The two wander into an abandoned house and while he's remaining cautious of the missing floorboards, Smino can't take his eyes off the mysterious dream girl. Once outside again, she leads him under purple skies to what looks to be an enchanted tree that bears no leaves but plenty of black apples. But he's still hesitant to take a bite.

"Blkjuptr" is Smino's lead single off his debut EP of the same name which dropped today. The five-track offering is technically a re-release of his project that dropped late last year, but this time is available on iTunes. The EP features production entirely from Soulection's Monte Booker and can easily set the scene for an introspective night-in.

When XXL chopped it up with the MC for The Break, the charismatic 24-year-old with a signature twang likes the lane he's carving for himself.

"I say my sound is more is more futuristic funk, rap funk. If people or if I would compare my sound to any art that has came out before, I would say Dungeon Family-esque. But now a days they were inspired by the shit that is coming out now; soulful rappy shit.”
