Update:

According to Freddie Gibbs' U.S. lawyer Scott Leemon, Gibbs "has officially been released from custody and his fiancée was there waiting for him."

Original Story:

There is developing news out of France this morning (June 16) as the lawyer for Freddie Gibbs has shared a press release announcing that the rapper will be released on bail “pending a final decision on the extradition request by the Austrian authorities."

Gibbs was arrested earlier this month on rape allegations stemming from an incident that took place in Austria in 2015. Gibbs was released on a $50,000 Euro bail, which equates to about $55,877 USD.

Likewise noted in the press release is the fact that Gibbs will be required to turn in his passport and check in with authorities three times per week. His lawyer, Scott Leemon, mentions that he flew to France to meet with Freddie and lawyers from both France where the rapper was arrested and Austria, where he is charged.

“After the meeting, and talking to Freddie it is really shocking these allegations were ever filed against him," Leemon writes. "They were brought months later with no specific nor physical evidence against him. We are hoping that the Public Prosecutor in Austria sees this and decides not to file formal charges against him. If she does, Freddie will fight them with everything he has."

Leemon also notes that Freddie's fiancée has flown to France and continues to support him. Gibbs is expected to be released today or tomorrow, and we will update this story as news develops.
