Smoke DZA and Pete Rock Announce ‘Don’t Smoke Rock’ Project

Smoke DZA's output in 2016 has consisted of two projects already, and it appears he has another one on deck with hip-hop legend Pete Rock.

Rock made the announcement via Instagram earlier today posting what looks to be the cover art for the project. The photo appears to have been taken at SOB's and shows the two rappers standing side-by-side. While Pete Rock stands looking stoic, DZA is taking a huge drag off a thickly rolled joint - right in front of a "No Smoking" sign. The caption reads, "DSR coming soon!!! Dont Smoke Rock! Smoke Dza x Pete Rock!" There is no release date for the project as of yet.

This comes on the heels of Rock reuniting in the studio with his former rhymer partner C.L. Smooth a couple months ago. The duo are apparently working on a project as well with Pete posting, “Had a great meeting of the minds with da big homie!” He added, “It’s about damn time” and “We back” in the hashtags.

The two haven't put out an album since 1994’s The Main Ingredient, after which they split to pursue solo careers. Before that they released the critically acclaimed projects All Souled EP out in 1991 and Mecca and the Soul Brother in 1992. The last tease we got of a reunion came in 2007 when they worked together on the song “Love Is a Battlefield” for C.L. Smooth’s 2007 album The Outsider.
