Now that he's officially a U.S. citizen, hip-hop pioneer Slick Rick has plenty to say about America's political process. And with 2016 being an election year, the "Children's Story" MC is weighing in on who he thinks deserves to lead the country once Barack Obama leaves office.

In a new interview with Billboard, The Ruler endorses Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton for president.

“[The Clintons] have a history already in the White House. When her and her crew was in the White House we stayed out of the red ink. They’ve got an audience that follows them,” he said. “They’ve been around two or three decades so people know them already. We know your heart, you’re sincere. That posse, it doesn’t matter if they switch places, it’s still the same mindset.”

In addition to voting for the first time, Rick also expressed enthusiasm about traveling freely now that he has dual citizenship in the U.S. and U.K. and visiting family in Jamaica. After more than 20 years of court battling, the "La Di Da" MC received his U.S. citizenship last week (April 15). The U.S. government tried to give the British-born MC the boot many times for a felony he committed in 1991. In 2002, Rick was arrested on a docked Caribbean cruise ship and spent a year behind bars. Again in 2008, officials tried to say his felony prevented him from living peacefully in the U.S. and it took a pardon from New York Governor David Paterson to confirm that The Ruler could stay permanently. The pardon became official last week.

And now that the burden of worrying about his citizenship status is lifted off his shoulders, Rick is looking to get back into music with help from some of hip-hop's new school.

“I still want to break into some new stuff here and there," he adds in the interview. "So when the opportunity arises, gotta dust off my shoulders, and may be able to think of a song idea here and there. It couldn’t hurt. We can just throw it out on the Internet or with a new artist. Just for fun.”
