Russell Simmons is basically a guru in hip-hop. The mogul has transformed from the rigorous trailblazer who cofounded Def Jam to a peaceful serene character that many look to for inspiration. The quotes often featured on his Instagram page provide daily motivation for many and are growing more popular with time. The quotes are carried all over the social networking platform and featured on countless of the 100 million plus accounts.

This past March, Simmons took the philanthropy beyond IG, traveling to Flint Mich. to assist with the water crisis. The co-founder donated 150,000 bottles of water to the famine stricken town and personally visited homes and spoke to the affected. The courteous donation was courtesy of RushCard, the prepaid debit company Russell started in 2003. Diddy, Pusha T, Meek Mill, The Game and other hip-hop heads also joined in on the give-back, donating over two million bottles in total.

It's not all happy go lucky for Uncle Rush though, as that clap back that hip-hop has grown to love still lives inside him, just making briefer appearances. In December of 2015, the mogul decided to let loose on Donald Trump, as much of hip-hop has. Simmons wrote a personal letter to the presidential hopeful (via Global Grind), someone who the longtime music exec has called a friend and supporter for over 30 years. In the letter Russell condemned both Trump’s campaign and political views.
