Between her own Lil' Kim Season mixtape and the upcoming Bad Boy reunion shows set for May, Lil' Kim has been back in the news recently, but gained some potentially unwanted attention due to a photo she posted to Instagram on Sunday (April 24).

Captioned with "Miami Heat!!!!," the IG post is a collage of selfies that show Kim with a lighter skin tone and blonde hair. While the look reflects an evolution for Kim over time, many on Twitter were taken aback by her drastic changes, some expressing sympathy for the rapper while others were simply perplexed.

Included below is a gallery of Twitter reactions to Kim's post, a majority of users expressing love for the rapper and sadness that she has decided to alter her image in such a fashion. Additionally, some have sourced a 2000 Newsweek interview in which Kim discusses her self-esteem issues saying, "I have low self-esteem and I always have. Guys always cheated on me with women who were European-looking. You know, the long-hair type. Really beautiful women that left me thinking, 'How I can I compete with that?' Being a regular black girl wasn't good enough."

She elaborates on that sense of insecurity further, saying, "All my life men have told me I wasn't pretty enough — even the men I was dating. And I'd be like, 'Well, why are you with me, then?' It's always been men putting me down just like my dad. To this day when someone says I'm cute, I can't see it. I don't see it no matter what anybody says."

The conversation around Kim's appearance comes within days of Beyonce releasing her album Lemonade in which she says on the song "Sorry" "He better call Becky with the good hair,” in reference to husband Jay Z's supposed infidelity and the notion that straight smooth hair is preferable to that typical of black women, what Bey herself champions on "Formation."
