Today, April 16, is the birthday of Chicago rapper Jayson Jenkins, better known as Mick Jenkins.

At just 25 years old, Mick is steadfastly associated with Chicago's newest breed of conscious rap's rising stars. Mick began to take music seriously in 2012 when he dropped his first official mixtape, 2012's The Mickstape followed by 2013's Trees and Truths. Critics and fans connected with the Cinematic signee's deep vocals, intricate analogies and acid-jazz production. One listen to the lyrical content of the outspoken MC will tell you he's clearly wise beyond his years. Playing off the analogy of water as knowledge, Mick has dove deeper into social issues by way of memorable hooks on his last two projects The Water[s] (2014) and Wave[s] (2015) and has even toured internationally. Jenkin's upcoming debut album, [T]he [H]ealing [C]omponent is expected to drop this year but rest assured, the young spitter is continuously dropping loosies to keep his fans at bay.

Happy Birthday, Mick!
