Is Earl Sweatshirt preparing to release some new music? That might be the case as the Los Angeles rapper debuted some new tracks during a Monday (Dec. 21) performance at The Observatory in Santa Ana, Calif.

Earl Sweatshirt performed five new songs during his show and it's an interesting look at where Earl might be going with his music. Earl's album I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside was well received, but it was a very dark project. The album highlighted Earl's lyricism, but the production was far from lively. There were many listeners who found the density of the album to be difficult to handle, at least for repeated spins.

These new tracks sound like a stark departure from the mood of I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside. Obviously the audio isn't great quality as it's footage of a live performance, but you can tell there's jazzy vibe to most of these new tracks. Earl is still flexing his lyrical muscles though as he offers up some swift rhymes. It will be fascinating to see if Earl develops this sound and comes at fans with a drastically different vision on his next work.

This isn't the first time that Earl Sweatshirt has performed some new material at a live show this year. During a performance at the famed Low End Theory event in Los Angeles this past August, Earl showcased two previously unheard songs.
