Earlier this year, Dr. Dre stopped the Internet and the music world at large in its tracks when he released his long-anticipated third album. Compton: The Soundtrack was not the mythical Detox, the album that had been promised for over a decade and for which a veritable murderer's row of producers and rappers had contributed demos. Instead, it was a focused, prescient record, one that owed heavily to a small group of close collaborators. One of those was Anderson .Paak, the Los Angeles-bred singer and rapper whose voice graces much of Compton, including the standout DJ Premier collaboration, "Animals." Now Anderson's second album has been confirmed, and its cover revealed: Malibu is due out Jan. 15.

The record's cover was designed by Dewey Decibel. Malibu follows 2014's Venice, which spawned a minor hit in "Drugs." Formerly known as Breezy Lovejoy, Anderson first started making noise on the local circuit a few years prior to that, and was briefly affiliated with the Nocando-helmed indie collective Hellfyre Club. BJ the Chicago Kid, Talib Kweli, The Game and Rapsody appear on the record, which is produced by Kaytranada, 9th Wonder, Callum Connor, DJ Khalil, Madlib, Pomo, Hi-Tek, Chris Dave, Robert Glasper and Dem Jointz. The Madlib connection comes at least in part from Anderson's ties to Stones Throw, the label which is set to issue an EP (and later a full-length) from Anderson and the producer Knxwledge under the name NxWorries.
